We are Lisa Klein and Carlijn Otten and we are senior year physiotherapy students at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Heerlen (the Netherlands).
For our bachelor thesis, we will investigate the effects of mental practice in stroke patients. Previous research only included stroke patients who performed well on the motor imagery ability tests. In our reseach, we will include stroke patients with a low imagery ability and investigate if they are able to learn how to use motor imagination by using mental practice techniques. We are also interested in whether it is useful to use motor imagery for activities of daily life.
Our main goal is to find out whether motor imagery is trainable. Will the scores of stroke patients on the motor imagery ability test improve after the mental practice intervention? Results of this study are expected in the summer of 2015.
